Math Tutoring

The Learning Path offers two approaches to Math: 1) a mastery of the Fundamentals; and 2) a mastery of the Common Core. Typically students will focus on a mastery of the Fundamentals up to Grade 3, when we shift to mapping out their Math knowledge to the Common Core standards. Sometimes The Learning Path combines both types of approach for one student, focusing on a fluency of arithmetic at home; while fostering their mastery of the more conceptual Common Core standards in class.

Reading Tutoring

The Learning Path emphasizes the need to practice Reading and Writing, and tries to avoid separating one from the other. Students need to master both right from the start. In our Reading program, The Learning Path fosters a mastery of foundational skills for younger learners, focusing on Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and High Frequency Words. As students progress we shift to Vocabulary and Comprehension within an individualized map of a student’s knowledge against the Common Core standards.

Writing Tutoring

The Learning Path emphasizes the need to practice Reading and Writing, and try to avoid separating one from the other. Students need to master both from the start. In our Writing program, we foster a mastery of foundational skills for younger learners, focusing on the correct way to hold a pencil, printing letters correctly, separating b’s from d’s and p’s from q’s, and even Cursive writing. There are many advantages to learning Cursive writing early, including better spelling and penmanship. It’s much easier for young students to master cursive than most parents assume. As students progress we shift to writing full sentences, punctuation, grammar, and spelling. Once students have mastered sentence writing, we move to mastering paragraphs, and finally to writing essays.
